Waffles is a real dog. A curious, fluffy, ridiculously lovable little guy who changed everything when we tried to take him abroad.
He's the reason this product exists. He's also the namesake and personality behind our AI assistant, who helps pet owners navigate the same chaos we went through.
Also, yes, he does have his own seat at the Delta Sky Club.
The idea for Wafflin' Abroad first popped into my head around March 2020. I had been researching what it would take to travel internationally with Waffles and realized how scattered and confusing the whole process was. I started designing the app, but life happened and I put it to the side.
In June 2024, I was finally ready to take Waffles to Peru. Everything was planned, flights were booked, hotel was reserved. Then my vet made a mistake on our paperwork and I had to reschedule the entire trip. The scramble to figure out if I'd get refunds on the hotel and flights was incredibly stressful. That experience truly shook me and brought the idea rushing back with urgency.
I tried to revive the project in 2024, but the cost of hiring developers to build the app was way too high for me as a solo founder. So I shelved it again. But the idea kept nagging at me because the problem wasn't getting any simpler.
Now I'm finally doing it. I'm learning, building, and shipping Wafflin' Abroad myself. Every feature comes from a real frustration I experienced firsthand. Every checklist item is sourced from the same government websites I had to dig through alone. And I'm excited to make sure no one else has to go through what I did.
